I updated my profile and now it looks all pretty so I thought I should probably update my journal too. But I do have some interesting points so isnt that nice for a change
Cintiq 24HD and tablets
I saved my button off and finally purchased a Cintiq. Previously I was using an Intuos5 which I only have nice things to say about, and prior to that I had a Bamboo pen and touch and as with the Intuos it was a lovely little tablet for the price.
There isnt a huge difference other than perhaps surface area between the Intuos tablets and the Bamboo tablets. Youre really not going to see any improvement there between them if youre starting out with digital art, and thats something I hear people hounding on about all the time. However the Cintiq I would probably say is a totally different case.
It makes a massive difference being able to draw, exactly where you put your pen and personally I just dont feel like I ever need to press as hard. I can be all light butterfly fingies. The 24HD is stupid large though, and weighs a damned ton. I regret a little bit not getting the 22HD, but the 22HD was more expensive (because they were all pen AND touch models. My 24HD is pen only) For people who are somewhat used to traditional art, and have moved into digital art I couldnt recommend the Cintiq more highly. There is also a 13" model which is pretty damned cool, portable and more wallet friendly too. So you know, if you desperately want one but the commitment to eating rice for dinner for six months to save for it turns you green, the 13" is there.
The colours on it are so vibrant that everything looks over saturated against my other IPS monitors. It took me the longest time to figure out which one was showing true colour. But I worked it out in the end. However, here is the washing machine sized box that turned up at my door.
Much to my dismay it does seem to have some issues. Once its turned on its fine, but sometimes it has a small aneurysm which Wacom assures me isnt the norm.
What Im working on
Given the splutters with the Cintiq that Wacom are supposedly coming to pick up or do something with it (Im not sure) I havent really been working on any really big pieces that I cant do quickly. But I did start to repaint something old. Repaints are great, though I dont do them very often. Heres a WIP of the repaint and the original painting.
Also a collaboration (more information below!) WIP:
Ive also put up a few more process pictures in my tutorials for those of you who like to see them, I hope theyre helpful. I would like to thank all the beautiful people who have commissioned me. You guys rock, and your characters rock, I always enjoy hearing about them and being able to bring them to life for you in some way. Ive mentioned in my commissions information that most of the time (time permitting) I am happy to do sketch exchanges. All of that information can be found here:
Commissions [Open]The following is my commission price list as well as some examples of the kinds of things that would fall into which category. If youre not sure then by all means ask, I am happy to explain and chat about which is probably going to be best, or if there is something specific in my gallery and you would like something done in a similar manner. As far as sketches go, ask about just doing a sketch trade with me if you desperately want a sketch and dont have the funds. I love art, everyones art, Id be happy to do that as far as time and backlog allows
Lineart/Coloured Lineart $20 - $35
Price here will really depend on the complexity, amount of characters in the picture and whether its colour or very basic values.

A big thankyou to kimsol who for some bizarre reason is entrusting me with working on a collaboration. Do check out her art, her photomanips are beautiful! (And so are her Christmas in July dinners, Im all over that)
